Clinical Research Center
The Clinical Research Center at the Research Institute on Addictions (RIA) was established in 1990 and is certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
The CRC is the only alcoholism and substance abuse treatment program in New York State designed specifically for clinical research. As such, the CRC plays an important role in developing and evaluating methods of addictions treatment. Through their involvement in clinical treatment research, the CRC staff are informed of the latest developments in substance abuse assessment and treatment issues. A unique strength of the CRC is the ability to test and apply innovative treatment strategies within the context of carefully controlled research protocols to determine appropriate clinical treatments. Additionally, the CRC staff carefully monitor treatment outcomes, thus enhancing services to clients.
Treatment Services:
The CRC offers outpatient treatment for substance abuse and dependency, including brief screening interviews, comprehensive assessments, thorough medical evaluation, and a range of treatment services that are based on research findings. Also available: a brief treatment program for problem drinkers, individual counseling, family counseling, education and coping skills training, relapse prevention, aftercare services, and DWI assessment and treatment for clients referred by the court system. A bilingual staff provides counseling in Spanish.
Cost:
The initial screening interview is free of charge. The CRC accepts Medicaid and most insurance plans. A sliding fee scale is offered based on income. No one is denied treatment because of an inability to pay. Often, there is no cost to clients who choose to participate in a clinical research project.
Eligibility:
The CRC treats persons 18 years and older who have problems with alcohol and other drugs. Persons who need detoxification or acute medical or psychiatric care are referred to appropriate agencies for these services.
Referrals:
The CRC accepts referrals directly from persons seeking help and from other treatment and social service agencies. A screening interview is usually available within 72 hours of the initial phone contact. Appointments may be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Limited evening hours are available. Call for availability (716) 887-2387.
Staff:
The CRC offers a culturally diverse staff of licensed and certified professionals from the fields of psychology, medicine, nursing, and alcoholism counseling. The multidisciplinary team approach allows us to provide comprehensive services that best meet the needs of chemically addicted individuals and their families.
