Examine the risk and protective factors associated with substance use and lifespan victimization among sexual minorities (i.e., gay men, lesbians, bisexual men & women, transgendered men & women). Secondary interests: sexual victimization and substance use among heterosexual women and adolescent girls, lesbian parenting.
Current Projects
The Role of Gender & Sexual Identity in Alcohol Use & Victimization (funded by NIAAA). This Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award will support a five-year plan to enhance Dr. Hequembourg's skills and expertise in addiction research. In addition, it will examine gender and sexual identity differences in alcohol use and victimization from a sexual minority stress perspective (in collaboration with Kathleen A. Parks, PhD, R. Lorraine Collins, PhD, of UB’s School of Public Health and Health Professions, and Michael R. Frone, PhD).
Video Vignettes: Measuring Risk Perception in Alcohol Related Sexual Assaults (funded by NIAAA). Development of a new computerized video vignette measure to assess women's ability to perceive risks for sexual assault during heterosexual drinking situations (in collaboration with Principal Investigator Kathleen A. Parks, PhD, and Co-investigators Maria Testa, PhD and Ronda L. Dearing, PhD). |
