Ongoing Research
College Sports, Gender, and Substance Use (funded by NIDA). Examined longitudinal relationships between high school sports participation and substance use and other health-risk behaviors in college-age young adults, and developed measures of athletic involvement in high school and college populations (in collaboration with Co-investigators Grace M. Barnes, PhD, RIA; Michael Farrell, PhD, UB Department of Sociology; Merrill Melnick, SUNY College at Brockport; and Don Sabo, D’Youville College).
Sports, Gender, & Adolescent Substance Use (funded by NIDA). Investigated the nature of relationships between sports and other specific extracurricular activities and substance use and other risky adolescent behaviors (in collaboration with Co-Principal Investigator Grace M. Barnes, PhD; and team of collaborating scientists including Michael Farrell, PhD, UB Department of Sociology; Merrill Melnick, SUNY College at Brockport; and Don Sabo, D’Youville College).
